Established in 2000, the Virgil Estate Shiraz and Viognier vineyard graces the outskirts of Mt. View, nestled near Millfield in The Hunter. Spanning 100 acres, our estate boasts approximately 5 acres dedicated to Shiraz, with a slightly smaller allocation for Viognier. Deliberately eschewing excessive irrigation, our Shiraz vines have thrived amidst the challenge, receiving water only on rare occasions. In 2009, we expanded our repertoire by acquiring a 25-year-old Chardonnay vineyard in Lovedale, further enriching our portfolio.
Committed to organic practices, we exclusively utilise organic fertilisers, ensuring the utmost care for our grapes. Even in challenging late summer conditions, we exercise discernment, occasionally forgoing harvest to maintain quality, though our generosity extends to sharing with the local avian inhabitants. Every grape is meticulously hand-harvested, then delicately chilled for 24 hours before undergoing whole bunch crushing, a process aimed at enhancing the complexity of our wines.
